Paulette Wins WWGA Big Break 3
Paulette Pelc is our 2010 Big Break winner, surviving a 7-hole playoff against Kelly Hollister. Paulette sank a birdie putt on the last hole, while Kelly’s birdie putt stayed on the lip!!
About half of the league was able to stay after our Aguila tournament to participate in the Big Break. They competed for points on 4-, 8-, and 12-foot putts, 3 tries at a bunker shot to a tough circle, and 3 tries over The Wall to another circle. Many thanks go out to Janet Anderson and her crew for making the circles out of hundreds of Aguila ball marks!
Then the top 10 point leaders faced off in a Chip-Off. The five winners of the Chip-Off were Harlene Bowman, Nancy Walter, Kat Kimura-Williamson, Kelly Hollister, and Paulette Pelc.
They then went to the Par 3 course for a 2-hole aggregate score playoff. Kelly birdied the first hole and everyone else got a nice par. The second hole knocked out Harlene and Nancy. Kat succumbed on the third hole. We offered to award co-winners, but the competitive edge won out and Kelly and Paulette elected to keep going!! A fun day was had by all!!
Congratulations Paulette!

Mary Benkert Wins!
Congratulations to Mary Benkert who won the Memorial Weekend Classic this weekend at Coldwater Golf Club. It was a 3-day event with a small but competitive (and fun) field. Mary played consistently well, with a 73-73-74.
Also in the tournament, Nancy Walter bulldogged overall low net with a 68-69-71.
Susan Browning and Stacey Sanford tied for 2nd low net.
Kelly and Anni are enjoying their honorable-mention golf towels. Kelly was 2nd gross with a very consistent 75 on each day. Anni woke up Sunday and shot a 76.
Great weather and great friends made the weekend that much more fun! Nice playing, girls!

Congrats to Kelly (yes AGAIN!)
Kelly Hollister had a fairly busy May. In early May, she competed in the AWGA's State Match Play Championship at Gold Canyon. In the Senior Championship division, she finished 2nd to an always-tough Nicole Tombs, losing on the 18th hole. For more results, click here. From there, Kelly travelled to Daytona, FL to compete in the National Junior College Golf Championships. In case you didn't know, our little Kelly is a freshman this year at Gateway Community College. She was a welcome addition to the golf team there, not only for her "game," but also for her wisdom, character and leadership. In the championship, Kelly competed well -- finishing 36th in a tough field and a long course.

Just think.... in the Fall, she played in the US Senior Women's Amateur -- to Spring, when Kelly played in the NJCAA Golf Championship. And in between, there was much more golf -- (I won't repeat it... see this blog)! Congrats Kelly!

Martha, Martha, Martha...
(Did anyone get my Brady Bunch reference, there??)
Anyway, Martha French is at it again. She scored her second hole-in-one on Sun, Jan 31 at Country Meadows. It was scored on hole #6 and she used a pitching wedge. You'll find that she's been "blogged about" alot lately. She's being awfully selfish with those aces. Give us all a chance, will ya??
Remember that an ace scored in any of the Working Women's monthly tournaments will earn you a cool $50 (to offset your bar tab -- of course). So practice, practice!! Congrats again, Martha!

Neili's in the News Again; Martha wins Money Race
As part of our end of year awards, congratulations to Neili Gundrum who is our 2009 Most Improved Player. She edged out the 2nd place finisher by the skin of her teeth. (That would be poor Ann White who hasn't gotten her name on this blog for quite some time!)
Also, congratulations to Martha French who won the 2009 Money Race. She placed in 10 of the WWGA's events last year. That is mighty impressive, Ms Martha!!
